STS. PETER & PAUL AND THE HOLY APOSTLES
Come and celebrate the Feast of the Sts. Peter & Paul and the Holy Apostles on Monday, June 29, Orthros, 5 PM and Divine Liturgy, 6 PM. Evening Feast Day Liturgies are a great opportunity to enhance our spiritual lives. Celebrating the Liturgy more frequently and not just on Sundays is a great way to have an evening of prayer in order to receive peace and strength for the next day.
SPIRITUAL BOOK CLUB
Having completed our spiritual journey through Great Lent, Easter and now Pentecost, it is the perfect time to keep up our disciple and energy for our spiritual growth. Our next book is, “GIFTS OF THE DESERT, The Forgotten Path of Christian Spirituality”, by Kryiacos C. Markides. This is the same author of our previous book, “Mountain of Silence. We would like everyone to read this book at their leisure during the summer months and we will discuss in the early fall. Please see Tamara Costa in the GOYA Bookstore to purchase your book. “A fascinating narrative that is…dialogue and meditation, history and politics, theology and travelogue.” Los Angeles Times.
GREEK FESTIVAL
One more BIG week of preparation for the Festival before we rest for a little while. This week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, 5 – 8 PM, we will make all the Souvlakia, lamb, chicken and pork. This is plenty of work for everyone, cutting meat and vegetables, skewering and packaging. Wednesday and Thursday mornings we will also be making Koulourakia, (those delicious twist cookies), from 9 AM – 1 PM. We need a large number of volunteers for these BIG jobs. The Festival benefits our parish and we have others in need, please come and help shoulder the workload.
SHOES FOR ORPHAN SOULS
Our Ladies Philoptochos Society is involved in a nationwide project collecting "NEW" shoes for orphans all over the world. This is an outstanding project for our youth groups and all the members of our parish to be involved in too! For GOYANS, what a great opportunity for everyone to go to the clearance section and purchase a "NEW" pair of shoes that would benefit an orphan your age! Please bring your new shoes to church with you and put them on the round table near the entrance to the hall. Let’s collect as many shoes as possible by the end of June. Thanks for your support.
HELP FEED THE HUNGRY FOOD COLLECTION
Please continue to bring canned goods and non-perishable foods throughout the Summer. These foods will be distributed to the North Raleigh Ministries Food Bank.
SUNDAY SCHOOL PHOTO
On Commencement Sunday last week a beautiful group photograph of our Sunday School was given to each student. If you were not here and would like to receive one, please contact Laura Saparilas at laurasap@waketech.edu. Thank you!
FATHER ANTHONY & PLANNING STUDY RESULTS
NOW it is crucial that everyone complete their Planning Study Survey and mail them to directly to Father Anthony in the envelope provided in the mailing. Fr. Anthony will be visiting our parish again next Sunday, June 28 to present his findings from the surveys, focus groups and the person interviews. Everyone is invited to the Parish Hall after the Divine Liturgy to hear his report. Please spread the word out to others about this meeting and encourage them to attend.
PARISH COOKBOOK
Have you submitted your favorite recipe(s) yet? Test out one you like the best and submit it. This will be an international cookbook, celebrating the diversity of our Parish. So, if you have recipes that are Greek, Russian, Lebanese, Serbian, Eritrean, American, et al., we really want to represent EVERYONE in our Parish family. So please, dig out some of your favorite family recipes and send them to Jill Stark (jill.stark@gmail.com).
