FEAST OF SS PETER AND PAUL – JUNE 29TH
St. PETER, whose Aramaic name is Cephas and means “rock”, was translated into Greek as “petra”. St. PETER is one of the Twelve Apostles. It appears that he left a good business and a comfortable home to follow Christ (Mark 10:28). St. PETER was the spokesman of the Apostles on the day of Pentecost and the Death and Resurrection of Christ led to a change in this Apostle. He became bold and steadfast in his mission, which eventually led to giving his life to Christ. He was crucified; head down (at his request) in Rome on the same day St. Paul was beheaded. The Orthodox Church memorializes St. Peter on June 29th.
St. Paul, the distinguished apostle of the Gentiles (Romans 11:13), was originally named Saul, but he changed his name to PAUL in honor of Sergius Paulus, whom he converted (Acts 13:16-12). St PAUL traveled to many regions, converted many people, founded numerous churches, endured many trials, performed miracles, wrote many epistles, and died a martyr’s death. St. PAUL was beheaded in Rome, on the same day St. PETER was crucified, head downward. The Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. PAUL on June 29th. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated beginning at 9:00AM.

FEAST DAY OF THE HOLY APOSTLES – JUNE 30TH – Divine Liturgy at 9:30am – bible study to follow.
