We kindly ask that you continue to show your loving support for our Saint Spyridon family through your stewardship commitment. If you have already pledged your stewardship for this year please give a stewardship card to a friend or family member.
Registration for our parish youth ministries is taking place during office hours and in the community hall after the Divine Liturgy. Sign up for Altar Boys, Handmaidens, Cherubs, HOPE, Jr. GOYA & GOYA, Greek Dance, Jr. Choir, Athletics, Byzantine Music, & Iconography. Forms are available at the community hall, in the church office and on line at www.Saint-Spyridon.org.
The Byzantine Music School of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, provides the basics in the art of Byzantine Music for both children and adults. Children must be at least 12 years old. The branch of the school for the southern suburbs of Chicago is hosted by Saint Spyridon. Classes are offered at the following times. Beginning Students: Mondays at 4:30 p.m. Intermediate Students: Mondays at 5:15 p.m. The first day of class is Monday, September 16th. Classes are offered free or charge to all Orthodox faithful.
In its fifth year, our Iconography seminar will once again welcome new and old students to learn how to make icons. Mr. Panagiotis Michalopoulos, a professional iconographer, is donating his time to teach both children and adults the art of iconography. Registration Form is available at the church office and on-line. The Registration Fee for this class is $100 for stewards of Saint Spyridon. Classes are offered on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. The 1st day of class is on Wednesday, September 18th.
Under the wing of the Archangels Academy, Cherubs is a toddler-caregiver program that welcomes our young children from 6 months to 4 years old, along with caregivers. The group meets every Tuesday, 10:30—12:00 p.m.. The first meeting is on Tuesday, September 10th. The program is offered free of charge to all area Orthodox families. Registration Forms for this group are available in the church office and on Saint-Spyridon.org.
HOPE is a weekly youth program for children 3 to 6 years old, where they learn about the lives of the saints and do a small craft. The program runs on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. starting on September 21st.
JUNIOR G.O.Y.A. & G.O.Y.A.
Boys and girls in 6th-8th (Jr. GOYA) and in High School (GOYA) are welcome to join. Various athletic, social and religious activities are held as well as other programs. Meetings and activities are held weekly. The first meeting and elections of officers will take place on Tuesday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m.
All Sunday School students ages 7 and older are invited to join the Junior choir. The children sing ecclesiastical hymns during the Divine Liturgy once a month, and with the regular choir throughout the year. Their first participation in the Divine Liturgy will take place on Sunday, September 29th.
We ask all college students (whether living at home or on campus) to please submit their mailing address to the Church office by September 14th, 2013, so that all the names can be placed on the Church mailing list.
Boys in 1st grade through High School are called to serve as Altar Boys. Along with their Altar duties, regular meetings and other programs are held. If you wish for your child to participate please attend the first meeting on Saturday, September 21st, at 10am.
Girls ages 7-17 are called to serve as Handmaidens. Meetings are geared toward service projects that teach young girls to offer their time and talents to the church and to the community at large. The first meeting is Saturday, September 21st, at 10:00 a.m.
All our youth is invited to participate in the St. Spyridon’s Athletic Program. We are once again combining with St. Nicholas in Oak Lawn.
Pee-Wee Basketball for kids Pre-K– 4th will be on Saturday mornings at 11:00 a.m. 1st day is Sept. 21st
Biddy Basketball, for boys and girls 4th-6th grades, will practice on Fridays, at 6:45 p.m.—7:45pm. First day is Friday, September 20th at St. Spyridon.
Grammar School Basketball for boys and girls 6th-8th is on Fridays, at 6:45 p.m.—8:15 p.m. The first day is Friday, September 20th, at St. Spyridon.
High School Boys Basketball will practice on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. 1st Day is Sept. 25th at St. Nicholas, Oak Lawn.
Again this year, the Greek Dance classes will be taught during Greek School. Every Friday, Greek Dance classes will be directed by Mr. Angelo Angelos during Greek School hours. Greek Dance students from our Greek School and other students who wish to learn Greek Dance, who are not in Greek School, will be divided into eight groups. Instruction will be given to four groups each Friday. A schedule of classes will be made available on the first day of class.
While registration is automatic for Plutarchos students, non-Plutarchos students are welcome to register for the Greek Dance classes at the church office.
Community Service Hours
Any high school student who requires community service prior to graduation should contact the Church office at their earliest convenience.

Once again our Adult Religious Education groups will gather weekly to discuss a variety of topics pertaining to living our Orthodox faith. The topic for this year will be the book of Genesis. The Greek Bible Study meets on Monday, at 7:00 p.m., following the 6:00 p.m. Paraklesis. The first class will take place on Monday, September 23rd. The English Bible Study will meet on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. starting September 24th. A class schedule will be available on our church website.
