AHEPA Sunday today. Fr Florin will celebrate AHEPA Sunday by having a mnimosino (memorial) service to our deceased past members - Marion Hayes, Christopher Smith, Vasilios (Ross) Warren, and Demetrios Mitromaras. Many thanks to Cleopatra Nelson who has graciously accepted to make the koliva. Our coffee hour today is sponsored by AHEPA. Thank you!
Festival - Opa!
FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS: Many "Thanks" to all our Festival Volunteers for their hard work, dedication and Christian attitude. Without you, we could not have a Festival.
"Thank you" also to all our wonderful dancers- Angels, Asteria and Nisiotes,- and teachers, Kika, Jose and Christina. You were all amazing!!!
We also appreciate Chris Nicolaou and his group from the Cathedral, the Bay Area Chorus Line Tappers under the direction of Noula Varsos, and our "Table Dancer," Aldo Rapos for their spectacular entertainment program.

Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum Event
Sing and Laugh with Master Storyteller Bill Gordh! A Tale of Three Wishes and Other Greek Tales from Cyprus and the Mainland is a fun-filled program for families of four- to eight-year olds taking place at the Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum (4011 Yupon Street), at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009. Whether performing at the White House or with the New York Philharmonic, banjoist Bill Gordh creates unique musical tales for his audiences, including this special event you will not want to miss. Philoptochos Scholarships
The Nikolas O. Simeon Philoptochos scholarship application is available. The scholarships are for St John`s graduating high school seniors who will continue their studies at a university, college, or trade school, and whose families are pledging members in good standing. Please see Mary Zacharias or Cleopatra Nelson for an application and a list of academic requirements. Applications are due June 28 and they will be awarded in August.
GOYA News
GOYA will be having elections for next years officers on Sunday May 31st in a meeting after the Sunday School Ceremony. The positions open are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian. If you are interested in running for office, please prepare a 30-second speech of why the GOYAns should vote for you. If you would like to run, but can not be at the meeting, please e-mail Christina (grkvarsos@hotmail.com) your speech and it will be read aloud to the group.

Bible Study Class
Fr. Florin would like to receive feedback concerning a bible study class. There are two different times Father is considering:
1. Friday from 7-9pm
OR
2. Saturday from 7 -9pm (after Vespers)
Please either call the church, email, or speak with Father directly if you are interested in attending, and what day you favor.
AHEPA Scholarships Now Available
Scholarship applications from our local AHEPA chapter are available . Please see Allen Nelson for an application or send him a request via e-mail at apnelson1@hotmail.com. Applications need to be turned in to Allen Nelson, George Zacharias, or any of the AHEPA officers by June 25. The children of AHEPA members who are college students and will be finishing at least one year of college studies by this June may wish to apply for the AHEPA District 16 scholarship. Again, please contact Allen Nelson for the application. This application is due by May 28. Also, a variety of scholarships are available from the downtown AHEPA chapter at the Annunciation Cathedral. These scholarships are open to AHEPA members and their children or grandchildren, and also to parish members and their children or grandchildren from any Greek Orthodox church in the greater Houston area. Please see Allen Nelson for an application. These applications are due by June 19.
Sunday School
There will be Sunday School immediately following communion on Sunday. All children are especially invited to church next Sunday the 31st ffor Sunday School Recognition Day. Please plan to attend this special event. Also please mark your calendars, Vacation Church School will be held the mornings of the week of June 15th. On Friday June 19th all families and church members are invited to accompany the VCS on a trip to Saint Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Monastery. Please don't forget to bring something for the food pantry when you come to church, especially now after Ike when the need is great. Any non-perishable items are welcome - peanut butter, canned stew, canned soups with some meat, canned vegetables, canned tuna or chicken or salmon, baby formula, diapers, toilet paper, shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, etc. Please support this church ministry. Prosforo Reminder
Please make sure that Prosforo is in church before the start of the service on Sunday. Please write the date (or put a sticker with the date) on the plastic bags with the Prosforo. That way the oldest will be used first. Thank you for your help, Cleopatra Nelson
