Capital Development Tray As this is the second Sunday of the month, a second tray will be passed for donations to the capital development fund. Please support this effort.

Coffee Hour This weeks coffee hour is sponsored by the Ballis family, in memory of their son, George. Thank you!

Memorial Today 40 day memorial today for George T. Ballis. May his memory be eternal!

Sunday School This week we will host Vacation Bible School. All children are welcome to attend and parents are welcome to help. We will have a daily message, with crafts, snacks, and fun activities. We will be meeting Monday - Thursday from 9:30-11:30. Godparents and grandparents...don't forget to encourage those special children in your lives to attend as well!
On Friday we will sponsor a trip to the women's monastery, St. Pareskevi. Everyone from the parish is welcome and strongly encouraged to come. The nuns will prepare a meal for us and we will also worship with them in a Paraklesis service. We will also make a stop at the Blue Bell factory on the way home.
We are asking for a minimum donation of $10 per person to help offset the costs of the trip. If you are interested in going, please make sure you reserve your seat, as they are filling up. Please contact Mary Maxson or Christina Varsos to reserve your seat.

AHEPA Meeting Today AHEPA meeting today after the Liturgy.

Congregational Singing The choir will be adjourning for the summer. The congregation is encouraged to sing along from the pews.

Birth Announcement Congratulations to parents Demos and Crystal Thanos on the birth of their daughter, Nicholetta Alexis Thanos, born May 31, 2009.

The family will sponsor the coffee hour after the Liturgy on July 12, to celebrate the presentation of their new baby into the Church.

Philoptochos Scholarships The Nikolas O. Simeon Philoptochos scholarship application is available. The scholarships are for St John`s graduating high school seniors who will continue their studies at a university, college, or trade school, and whose families are pledging members in good standing. Please see Mary Zacharias or Cleopatra Nelson for an application and a list of academic requirements. Applications are due June 28 and they will be awarded in August.

AHEPA Scholarships Now Available Scholarship applications from our local AHEPA chapter are available . Please see Allen Nelson for an application or send him a request via e-mail at apnelson1@hotmail.com. Applications need to be turned in to Allen Nelson, George Zacharias, or any of the AHEPA officers by June 25. Also, a variety of scholarships are available from the downtown AHEPA chapter at the Annunciation Cathedral. These scholarships are open to AHEPA members and their children or grandchildren, and also to parish members and their children or grandchildren from any Greek Orthodox church in the greater Houston area. Please see Allen Nelson for an application. These applications are due by June 19.

Food Pantry Please don't forget to bring something for the food pantry when you come to church, especially now after Ike when the need is great. Any non-perishable items are welcome - peanut butter, canned stew, canned soups with some meat, canned vegetables, canned tuna or chicken or salmon, baby formula, diapers, toilet paper, shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, etc. Please support this church ministry. Thank you.

Prosforo Reminder Please make sure that Prosforo is in church before the start of the service on Sunday. Please write the date (or put a sticker with the date) on the plastic bags with the Prosforo. That way the oldest will be used first. Thank you for your help, Cleopatra Nelson
