Apolytikion for Sunday of St. John Climacus
With the rivers of your tears, you have made the barren desert fertile. Through sighs of sorrow from deep within you, your labors have borne fruit a hundred-fold. By your miracles you have become a light, shining upon the world. O John, our Holy Father, pray to Christ our God, to save our souls. -Translation by Narthex Press

APOLYTIKION OF ST. NICHOLAS

An example of the Faith and a life of humility, as a teacher of abstinence you did inspire and lead your flock and through your truthfulness of your deeds were exalted by greatness through your humility uplifting all and by poverty gaining wealth. Father and hierarch Nicholas intercede with Christ our God that our souls be saved.

Rev. Fr. John E. Artemas, March 2009
May the Grace and Peace of the Lord be with you.

1. This year Orthodox Easter / Pascha is on April 19. Latin Rite Easter is a week earlier, on April 12. Orthodox Lent begins on Clean Monday, Καθαρά Δευτέρα, March 2.

2. One of my concerns, as an Orthodox Priest, is how our faithful relate to Great Lent. More than this, I often wonder

March 20, 2009
I am lovingly and joyfully writing to you on this solemn day, the Feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos and ever-Virgin Mary.  This Feast is celebrated in the midst of the season of Great and Holy Lent, and, thus, it provides us the blessed possibility to enjoy the unending love of God for us as we continue along our spiritual journey to Holy Week. ...Read Full Text >

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Well in advance of Holy Week, we wish to inform all of our parishioners that we have received strict instructions from the Metropolis NOT TO ALLOW HOLY UNCTION OIL TO BE TAKEN HOME. It is a Sacrament and may be administered to those who are prepared only by the clergy. We quote from the letter of His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos:
“To avoid abuses or a misunderstanding of the sacrament, the Holy Oil (Euchelaion) will not be distributed to laypersons by any means; neither following their own anointing, nor at the conclusion of the Holy Unction Service. If there is a need for anointing of the sick or those unable to attend the service in person due to physical limitations, the clergy will visit those persons by arrangement at an appropriate time.”
At St. Nicholas we will provide two opportunities on Holy Wednesday for our faithful to be anointed: 1) At the proper time during the service that begins at 2:30 pm.     2) At the
