Proistamenos: His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios

EXAMINING OUR HEARTS BEFORE HOLY WEEK AND GREAT AND HOLY PASCHA
Very Rev. Fr. George Tsahakis
I wanted to continue this emphasis on the spiritual health of our hearts by focusing on yet another question that I ask myself and each of you:
If we as Christians have an all-powerful Savior Whom we proclaim as our Risen Lord, what response are we offering to Him as our Savior and as our God ?
We now approach the final

Patriarchal Encyclical on the Sanctification of Holy Myrrh

March 28, 2012
Beloved children in the Lord, Each person, created in the image and likeness of God, is a temple of the Lord. Much more so, those of us who have been baptized in Christ and chrismated with Holy Myrrh, grafted into the good olive tree of the Orthodox Church, are temples of the Holy Spirit that is within us, despite our various sins, both voluntary and involuntary, which alienate us from the Lord. ...Read Full Text >

HOW CAN A FAMILY PREPARE FOR PASCHA
Often Great Lent is taught as a series of “shoulds” – we should go to Church, we should fast, we should pray, we should give alms. This approach focuses on “duty” and can have a negative connotation. We need an attitude adjustment. This year, try for a loving response to what our Lord has done for us. Step 1: What’s involved in Preparation? Ask family members how they have prepared for something important. Younger children may remember a piano or dance recital, a sports competition or a test in school. Teens may focus on getting a driver’s license. Parents may reflect on preparing for their wedding day or the birth of their first child. Whatever the experience, ask what was involved in the preparation period. Determine whether both knowledge and practice/action were required. Guide the discussion to allow each family member to share his/her story of preparation. Ask how each felt during the process and
