Apolytikion of the Church
O Commanders of the Heavenly Host, we the unworthy beseech you, that through your entreaties you will fortify us, guarding us in the shelter of the wings of your ethereal glory, even as we fervently bow before you crying: "Deliver us from all danger, as Commanders of the Powers on high!

Kontakion
You were transfigured upon the mount, O Christ our God, and Your disciples, in so far as they could bear, beheld Your glory. Thus, when they see You crucified, they may understand Your voluntary passion, and proclaim to the world that You are truly the effulgence of the Father. - Translation by Narthex Press

FROM THE MOUNTAIN TOP
Fr. Anthony Stratis, HOLY TRINITY, New Orleans, LA

On the feast of the Transfiguration, we chant: “Moses who saw God and Elias who rode in the Chariot of fire, passing across the heavens unconsumed, beheld You in the cloud at Your Transfiguration, O ...Read Full Text >

THE PANAGIA
When I look at the icon of the Dormition of the Theotokos, I see how much Jesus loved His mother. When I see in the icon Jesus holding a baby in His arms, I know that this is the soul of the beloved Mary, and that she has not died, but is entering a new existence in which she is received, re-made and refashioned, by the loving arms of her Son, Jesus. He Who had once been wrapped in swaddling clothes by Mary, now wraps her in the swaddling clothes of eternal glory. The Son has become a parent to His own mother! Is that a wonder! I notice also that while the arms of Jesus are accepting the soul of Mary, her body is not ignored. One of the apostles is swinging a censer at the top of the bier. Our whole being, body and soul, is worthy of salvation and preservation. You see why the Orthodox Church does not cremate a body. This is what the Resurrection is all about. Is that a wonder!
It is easy to forget the Panagia, just as it is easy to exaggerate our veneration
