Apolytikion of the Church
O Commanders of the Heavenly Host, we the unworthy beseech you, that through your entreaties you will fortify us, guarding us in the shelter of the wings of your ethereal glory, even as we fervently bow before you crying: "Deliver us from all danger, as Commanders of the Powers on high!

Kontakion
O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most constant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee. - Translation by Holy Transfiguration Monastery

Apolytikion for Marcianos & Martyrios the Notaries, Chrysanthe
Thy Martyrs, O Lord, in their courageous contest for Thee received as the prize the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since they possessed Thy strength, they cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons' strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by their prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful. - Translation by Holy Transfiguration Monastery

Kontakion
Ye struggled well even from earliest childhood, O wise Martyrius and all-blessed Marcian, and kept unchanged the Faith held by the Orthodox; for ye cast down Arius, the blaspheming apostate, as ye followed after Paul, your divinely-wise teacher. Wherefore with him ye also have found life, as God the Trinity's excellent champions. - Translation by Holy Transfiguration Monastery

Proistamenos: His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios

GOING FOR THE GREEN
Fr. Anthony Stratis, HOLY TRINITY, New Orleans, LA
In his analysis, written centuries ago, St. Basil the Great says the creation of heaven and earth, “was not spontaneous, as some have imagined, but drew its origin from God.” [Hexaemeron, 1,1] Even so long ago, the need for humanity to be respectful of the environment was understood as a moral imperative.

TOO SMALL TO COUNT?
Here in the United States, we Orthodox are a very small proportion of the population. At most, we are about one and a half million people. Our country’s population is estimated for 2009 to be 307,212,123 (July 2009 est.) people, so we are barely half of a percent. One commentator said, “the Orthodox in ...Read Full Text >

TAKE UP YOUR CROSS AND FOLLOW ME - EVEN WHEN IT HURTS
One of my favorite icons of Christ is the one where Christ is in the arms of the Virgin Mary looking up at two angels, one with a cross and the other with a spear and a cup. GOD'S LOVE FOR US
We speak about God’s love for His creation but do not understand it. Often we look at God from an Old Testament perspective , “an eye for an eye…” We see a stern creator. OXI – Speaking Truth to Power
By Rev. Dr. Elias Kyprianos Bouboutsis
ON THE 28TH OF OCTOBER, Greek Orthodox communities throughout the world remember a series of events from the beginning of World War II. It’s an extraordinary remembrance, one with many layers of meaning and many possibilities for learning and application today. It’s the story of Balkan peoples of faith who heroically resisted the fascist movements of their day – a story worth reflecting upon every year, in recognition of the high price and the true source of freedom.
It was the autumn of 1942, and Nazi commanders through their Italian fascist surrogates demanded that the
Albanians and Greeks give them access to the East Mediterranean. For them, tiny Hellas would be the gateway to the Middle East and a trophy relic of antiquity. Poorly armed and overwhelmingly outnumbered, the Greeks decided to join their Albanian brethren to the north and shout ‘OXI!’ –
