Quote for the Week: Christ wants you never, in any way, for any reason, to cultivate a spirit of hatred, bitterness, anger or ill-feeling. The four Gospels proclaim that on every page. - St. Maximus the Confessor

Scripture for the week: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. - Joshua 1:9

Question for the Week: In the midst of my bodily fasting this Great Lent, what diet am I feeding my soul? Have I taken time each day to seek the Lord’s face and drink in His presence, and to allow the Holy Spirit to renew my strength?

HOLY WEDNESDAY DISTRIBUTION OF SACRAMENT OF HOLY UNCTION: Throughout the years, there has been much discussion and misunderstanding concerning the distribution of the Sacrament of Holy Unction to the faithful on Holy Wednesday. Because this Sacrament was widely allowed to be taken home, it unfortunately became referred to as the “take home sacrament”. Therefore, the Metropolis of Chicago has issued an encyclical directing its priests that the Sacrament of Holy Unction not be distributed to the faithful to take home. While the Church does acknowledge that this will cause misunderstanding/inconvenience initially, it is hoped that through announcing this and educating our people well in advance of Holy Week, our faithful will make the effort and see the importance of attending Church on this day to receive the Sacrament as it is administered by the priest. Should there be someone who cannot attend Church on this day due to illness or any other good cause, the priest can and will visit that individual to administer the Sacrament. On Holy Wednesday, the Sacrament of Holy Unction will be administered 3 times throughout the day….11am, 3pm, and 7pm.. In addition, the Sacrament will also be available to those persons attending Services on Holy Thursday, Holy Friday, and Holy Saturday (either prior or following the Service) as well. We hope that you will understand the seriousness of the position of the Holy Metropolis. This Sacrament is one of seven Sacraments of our Holy Orthodox Church.

A WISE MAN A wise man should have money in his head, not in his heart. (Jonathan Swift)
