Fellowship
Today's fellowship is hosted by the "Panagia" Community. Everyone is invited to Plato Hall to enjoy fellowship.
Pentecost Sunday:
Today our Holy Orthodox Church celebrates the Feast of Pentecost. It is the day which our Lord left the power and grace of the Holy Spirit to remain with the Church on Earth as He resurrected into Heaven. It is also referred by many as the “Birthday of the Christian Church”. Following the Divine Liturgy, we will celebrate and take part in the traditional kneeling in observance of the Feast of Pentecost.
Annual Outdoor Divine Liturgy and Community Picnic Wrapup:
The annual outdoor Divine Liturgy and Community Picnic took place last Sunday, May 31st, at Ty Warner Park in Westmont, Illinois. On a beautiful and ‘picture perfect day’, this event was attended by almost 200 people. Following the Divine Liturgy, the attendees prayed and shared in a community meal with families and individuals contributing. A special thank you is extended to Peter Romas and family for the generous donation of hotdogs, hamburgers, and other items that were enjoyed by all. We thank Peter and all the donors who lovingly contributed to this event. A note of appreciation is also given to the cooks, setup/cleanup people and to the hard-working individuals who helped as needed. A thank you is also given to Voula Spyropoulos for helping coordinate this annual even for the children and adults alike.
Annual Assumption Church Picnic:
Once again, our beloved Parish of Panagia will hold its annual Labor Day Picnic on the Church grounds on Sunday/Monday, September 6th and 7th. Mr. James Lakerdas, President of the Parish Council, has announced that this year’s Chairpersons for the Picnic are Mrs. Christina Arvanites and Mrs. Tina Sarantos. Father Timothy and the members of the Parish Council are grateful to Christina and Tina for accepting this responsibility and giving of their time and talents to our Panagia Community. Should you wish to be a part of their team, please speak to either of them, or to James Lakerdas or Father Timothy.
Summer Worship Schedule Begins Today:
Beginning today, our Parish begins its Summer Worship Schedule. Please note that each Sunday through Labor Day, Sunday Orthros will begin at 8:00am, followed by the Divine Liturgy at 9:30am. Weekday Orthros/Divine Liturgy Services will begin at the normal time of 8:30am/9:30am.

WE OWE EVERYTHING TO GOD
When you are generous, you are not bestowing a gift, but repaying a debt. Everything you possess materially comes from God, who created all things. And every spiritual and moral virtue you possess is through divine grace. Thus you owe every-thing to God. More than that, God has given you his Son, to show you how to live: how to use your material pos- sessions, and how to grow in moral and spiritual virtue. We may say that your material and spiritual possession cost God nothing; God created the universe in order to express his own glory. But the gift of his Son was supremely costly, because his Son suffered and died for our sakes. The agony of Christ on the cross is the measure of how much God loves us. For this reason we should take none of our gifts, material or spiritual, for granted; day-by-day we should give thanks to God for what he has be stowed on us. Once this spirit of gratitude infuses us, we shall see generosity for what it is. We will regard our act as no more than a small token of appreciation for all that we have received or, more precisely, the repayment of a tiny fraction of God`s blessings. Saint John Chrysostom
