Bible Study: There will be no Bible Class this coming Wednesday, October 14th. The Bible Study Class will resume on Wednesday, October 21st, at 7:00pm, in the Saint Catherine's Meeting Room.

Question for the Week: Do I have a tough time saying "No" to my kids? Do I have a tough time saying "No" to myself? Is there a possible connection there?

Thought for the Week: (On the relationship between a husband and wife) Life as busy fathers/husbands and mothers/wives can be filled with many challenges with overloaded daily calendars. As the Fall Season routines get underway and the schedules are filled with everything from soccer practices to school and Church responsibilities for our children. And oftentimes, something goes neglected or overlooked……so we need to stop and reflect upon our Lord’s honest message to married couples. The message is….they are no longer two, but one. “Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate”. (Matthew 19:6) Often, we can go days or weeks without connecting with our spouse. Remember you are ONE with your husband/wife! As we go throughout each day with our ever busy lives, let us never lose sight of the importance of spending time with our spouse, nurturing our relationship with the gift of time. Maybe that means dropping by the Church and making an intentional appointment with the priest when needed. As corny as it might sound, consider dropping a love letter in the mail to your spouse with an invitation for a quality evening out for dinner. Life long, fulfilling marriages are built one day at a time. A relationship built on the sure foundation of faith in God and commitment to each other, no matter what the days may bring, will stand forever. Take the days one at a time, but don’t take them, or each other, for granted. -- Fr. Timothy

THE EARLY CHURCH In his book on the Eucharist, Fr Alexander Schmemann explains that in the early church, the Eucharistic sacrifice was offered by all the members of the church. Each person coming to the gathering of the Church brought with them everything they could spare for the needs of the Church. This meant for the sustenance of the clergy, widows and orphans, for helping the poor, and for all the good works of the Church. This is the Church that we as Orthodox Christians claim to be.

DCFS Christmas Gifts Under the Orthodox Christian Clergy Association, a Pan Orthodox project started in 1998 has purchased 16,000 Christmas gifts for foster children in the Department of Children and Family Services. Each year Orthodox Churches (the largest participants in this program) receive 1,500 foster children`s names. We have received these names and they are available for pick up each Sunday after the Divine Liturgy starting today.

100th Anniversary Celebration of SS. Constantine & Helen, Palos Hills, IL. On Saturday, October 24th, the parish of SS. Constantine & Helen, Palos Hills, Illinois, will celebrate their 100th Anniversary with a banquet at the Oak Brook Hills Marriott Resort in Oak Brook. Our parish of Assumption has secured a table. If you are interested in attending, please see Fr. Timothy or call the Church office for further information. Tickets are $125.00 per person.

Panos Fiorentinos-Architect A large architectural model of our church, Panagia, has been made in miniature. Made entirely out of laser cut acrylic sheets and painted white. This model shows our church without a roof, with the dome cut into thirds, and the original location of the choir loft. It will be on display for two months at North Park University. Brandel Library at North Park University located at 5114 N. Christiana, Chicago, Illinois 60625.
