Greek Byzantine Choir at St Vasilios; Jan 20th
On Sunday, January 20th 2008, The Greek Byzantine Choir of Greece, that has been touring the United States to great acclaim will accompany as Chanters during the 9:00 a.m. Divine Liturgy at Saint Vasilios under the direction of Lykourgos Angelopoulos.
The Greek Byzantine Choir is probably the most well known Byzantine choir in the world and definitely the choir with the most concerts in history (more than 1000!) and many recordings and publications under its name. The ΕΛΒΥΧ has influenced many choirs in Greece and abroad in terms of their performance style, stage appearance, repertoire and more.
This will be a very historic day for St Vasilios to host such a great choir of world renown. We are fortunate that they have agreed to take time from their busy schedule of ticketed concerts to participate in our Divine Liturgy on January 20th. You will have the opportunity to hear 18 professional chanters sing the responses during the Divine Liturgy as never heard before. The choir will have just finished a concert at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Boston Early Music Festival concert series in Boston, and other venues in the U.S. and now at St Vasilios, just before leaving for Athens
