WHAT IS A MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING?
Often people approach their local church to ask "How much is it to be a member?" or "How much are dues?"
Though well-intentioned, such a question reduces membership in the Body of Christ to a dollar amount and nothing more.
According to the guidance offered by the Clergy and Lay-leaders of the church, if you can answer "yes" to each of the following questions, you are a member in good standing:
Were you canonically baptized & chrismated?
If you are married, were you married in the Church?
If you were divorced, did you obtain an ecclesiastical divorce?
Are you 18 years of age or over?
Do you live according to the tenets of the Orthodox faith?
Do you faithfully attend Divine Liturgy & participate in the sacraments?
Do contribute toward the progress of the sacred mission of the Church?
Do you remain current in your stewardship obligation to the Church?
Do you cooperate in every way toward the well-being of the Parish?
We hope you were able to answer yes to these questions. If not, let today be the day you begin to move closer to full membership in the Church, the Body of Christ on earth.
"...God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many members, yet one body." I Corinthians 12
