Wounded By Love
Father Gerasimos Makris, March 17, 2006
Dear Students,
A group of students have been sharing in the reading of a book during this semester. They meet every other Wednesday to discuss what they read and to share in fellowship. Why are they doing this? Isn’t their schedule already busy enough that they have to add one more thing to their plate? They do this because they want a break from their regular readings, assignments and responsibilities. They want to share an uplifting book that will strengthen them to carry the burdens that they face.
Currently they are reading the book “Wounded by Love” by Elder Porphyrios, an elder of our Church who only in the last few years fell asleep in the Lord and who has faced the same challenges we face. Let me share with you one passage as a taste of what they are sharing: “Complete trust in God – that’s what holy humility is. Complete obedience to God, without protest, without reaction, even when some things seem difficult and unreasonable. Abandonment to the hands of God. The words we repeat during the Divine Liturgy say it all: ‘Let us commend our whole life to Christ our God.’…To You, O Lord, we leave everything. That is what trust in God is. This is holy humlity. This is what transfigures a person and makes him a ‘God-man.’”
If you liked the passage you will also like the book, and if you like the book, you will also love sharing it in a Christ loving ‘parea’ – company. So, join us every other Wednesday at the Reading Circle, and please contact me for more details.
I pray that your Lenten journey is a journey towards Christ.
In His love and service,
Fr. Gerasimos
