NOMINATIONS FOR PARISH COUNCIL
Suitable Candidates – Parishioners are often nominated as candidates for the Parish Council because of their education, business experience or legal background. The best parish council members are not necessarily those who are business-oriented, but rather, those who are Church-oriented and Christ-centered. To be a good council member, one must be active in the worship and sacramental life of the Church. The best candidates are easy to find – they are in church.
(Excerpt taken from “The Parish Council is a Ministry”, by Fr. James W. Kordaris)
Opening of the nominations for Parish Council will take place at the General Assembly on October 12th. Those members in good standing will be asked to nominate a candidate. Keep in mind when you nominate someone for the Parish Council you will need to speak to that person ahead of time to ensure that they are interested in serving and if they are elected will serve. After the nominations are closed and validated Fr. Theodore Dorrance will hold a PARISH COUNCIL SEMINAR on November 1st. The purpose of the Seminar is to prepare candidates for the Parish Council, as well as making them aware of the sacred responsibilities expected of a Council member. All nominees are required to attend this seminar, in accordance with the 2005 Regulations of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, but anyone interested is also welcome to attend.
