Youth Chanting at Lenten Salutation Service Friday, April 7, 2006

As done in past years, Grades 3 and up will be chanting in the Lenten Salutation Services. This year we will be chanting at the fifth and final service on Friday, April 7 (Warm-up at 6:15 P.M., Service at 7P.M.). There will be one rehearsal on Sunday, April 2, 11:30-12:30 P.M. Warm-up and rehearsal will be in the pre-school room upstairs (with piano). Let’s join together to chant in this beautiful service!

Greek Independence Day Parade The Parade is next week. ZHTO H ELLAS!
We have had a tremendous response!

Those of you that are still interested in marching or signing up family members please visit the parade booth during coffee hour. Those of you that have signed up will be receiving a confirmation call this week. To keep the uniformity and integrity of the parade the dress code is as follows: children:ethnic costumes or navy pants and a white LONG sleeve button down shirt, dark shoes (no sneakers, jeans or shorts), Adults: Navy pantsuit or navy pants and a white LONG sleeve button down shirt (if you do not have navy black is ok). If you are holding flags or banners white gloves are mandatory. Board members and Philoptohos - navy pantsuit white shirt, any ties for men. Due to liability issues carriages, wagons etc. will not be allowed this year. St. Demetrios sashes will be distributed before boarding the buses. Light snacks and a parade photo will be taken outside the church before departing. If you are marching but not taking the bus, please make sure you arrive on Boylston St. by noon . PALM CROSS MAKING Mark your calendars for April 15, (following the Divine Liturgy) on the Saturday of Lazarus Communion Breakfast. Let’s all join together: members of GOYA , JOY, Greek School, Koinonia, and all organizations are welcome to make Palm Crosses to prepare ourselves for Palm Sunday and Holy Week. Easter Lilies As is our tradition, our church will be decorated with beautiful lily plants on the eve of the Resurrection. Starting today, you may sign up to donate to our church at $20.00 each, a plant for the health of a loved one, in memory of a departed relative or friend, or for a reason close to you. You may also call the church office at 781 237-5561 to place your order.


PALM SUNDAY LAMB RAFFLE APRIL 16 There will be a drawing of three fresh, whole spring lambs on Palm Sunday, April 16, 2006. Please take this opportunity to help our worthy causes, which include: the Orthodox Christian Mission Center, Church Women United, Hellenic Cardiac Fund, National Philoptochos Cancer Drive, St. Basil’s Academy, Hellenic College/Holy Cross, International Orthodox Christian Charities, Salvation Army Miracle Kitchen, Monastery of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, Philoxenia House, St. Methodios Faith and Heritage Center, as well as other philanthropies. Raffle tickets are available for $2.00 each or 6 tickets for $10.00, with checks payable to St. Demetrios Philoptochos. Tickets will be mailed to parishioners and also sold during the coffee hour. PALM SUNDAY BAKE SALE Immediately following Liturgy on April 16th, the Philoptohos Palm Sunday Bake Sale will take place with sales to benefit Philoptohos Charities. To donate some home baked goods, please contact chairperson Carol Loridas at (781) 449-7176.

Holy Communion for Shut ins If you know of any sick or elderly people who are unable to attend services and would like to receive Holy Communion, and would appreciate a visit, please call the Church Office at 781-237-5561. We would be happy to visit with them. Thank you.

CHILDREN’S BOOK DRIVE Thank you for your donations of books to distribute to children in schools. Your donations are bringing excitement, joy and the love of not only reading, but also the ownership of books into the lives of many children. This is an on-going program; if you have gently used books to share, kindly drop them in the basket in the lobby. Many thanks.

PRAYER SHAWL KNITTING MINISTRY On the first and third Tuesday of each month at 1pm we meet to knit Prayer Shawls. Please join us and learn more about the Prayer Shawl Knitting Ministry. We have the yarn, needles and even the teachers...you can also knit at home if you can`t make it on Tuesdays; and many of our 36 knitters do knit from home. Also, please let us know who in our Parish may need our extra prayers by receiving a Prayer Shawl. Little Angels Our little Angels continue to meet in the St. Demetrios nursery room on the first Thursday of every month at 9:30a.m. We’ll be meeting on Thursday February 2nd, and again on Thursday March 2nd, so join us for music, dance and play! Moms have their time to talk and share ideas about parenting and kids always enjoy the company of the other children, so join us!
