COUNTING OUR BLESSINGS.... As we approach THANKSGIVING DAY, we would like to take this opportunity to say Thank You to all in our parish who labor tirelessly for Christ’s Holy Church. Our vocation as the Church is to be a witness of Christ’s Resurrection to the world, to heal by our love, and to raise the whole world as an offering of thanksgiving to God. There is a special joy that follows from serving others, a gladness that may be seen in the faces of those who participate in ministry (diakonia) which is the principle work of the parish. The parish is a community of faith, a place of love, worship, and growth in Christ—a fellowship (koinonia) of believers who are each called to partake in the joy and fellowship of ministry. As we sit down at the dinner table to feast with our families this Thursday, let us first offer thanksgiving to the Giver of every good and perfect gift, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

REMEMBER THAT WE HAVE NOW ENTERED THE NATIVITY LENT Before Christmas, as before Pascha, there is a lengthy and elaborate period of preparation. Christmas is preceded by a fast corresponding to Lent and lasting forty days. As Orthodox Christians, we are called to use this gift of time as an occasion to seriously reflect on the coming of our Savior through intensified prayer, fasting, reading of Holy Scripture, charitable acts and, of course, being present and actively participating in the divine services. It is also an appropriate time to come to confession.
Organizations of our church planning meetings or functions during this period are asked to keep such gatherings IN THE SPIRIT OF THE FAST and to keep in mind that they should always be cleared by both Father Michael and Father Matthew.

LAST CALL FOR THANKSGIVING HELP! FINAL PREPARATIONS are now underway for our ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DAY DINNER which will be hosted at Holy Trinity this Thursday from 11am-4pm. We are IN NEED of extra hands to assist us in CARVING THE TURKEYS this Tuesday and Wednesday beginning at 10am at Holy Trinity. We’d LOVE for you to help if you are able! We most lovingly THANK those parishioners who have volunteered for a shift on Thanksgiving Day. Our first two shifts (10am-1pm and 1pm-4pm) are now FULL with an average of 140 volunteer servers per shift. We are still in need of just a few more volunteers for the 4pm-6pm shift, which is the CLEAN-UP SHIFT. We realize that volunteering takes us away from family celebrations for a few hours, but BE ASSURED that our Lord blesses both the giver and the recipient.

'THE MERCIFUL SHALL OBTAIN MERCY' Saint Nikolai Velimirovic, the Serbian “Chrysostom”, says that if men were mindful every day of God’s charity towards them, they would be charitable to one another. There is nothing that makes a man more unwilling to give to others than the belief that no one is willing to give to him. No one? Where is GOD, then? Does not God reward us every day and every night with His charity in response to our lack of it? Saint Nikolai further states that he who grasps that charity is an active virtue, not a passive one, begins to fulfill it. To show charity to a beggar is neither the most difficult nor the greatest thing in Christ’s Law — the greatest is to show charity to our enemies. For the Lord says, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy”.
