YOUTH CHOIR On Mother`s Day, Sun., May 10 (Sunday School grades 3rd-High School) will chant the Divine Liturgy promptly at 9:30am. Teachers: please usher your students to the choir loft and pick them up before the sermon. Thanks to all who joined us during Holy Week!
Practice: Sat., May 9 from 10-11:30 a.m. followed by fellowship, pizza, pop and brownies. Drop off and pick up will take place by the chapel/gym doors. Anyone who needs a ride to the Saturday practice or to church on Mother’s Day, call Diane Matzorkis at 440-463-3068.


FESTIVAL DANCE REHEARSALS Junior dancers (ages 7-12) will meet after church on the following Sundays: May 17, 24 & 31; and Wednesdays at 5 p.m. on May 20 & 27.

Senior Dancers (ages 13 & up) will meet Sundays at 12:30 p.m.

Reunion Dancers In honor of our 50th anniversary festival, any and all former dancers over the years are invited back for a special reunion performance at this year’s festival. If interested, please call the office to sign up. Rehearsal times to be announced.


50TH ANNIVERSARY A commemorative album is in the works and we hope you will consider sponsoring an ad or tribute page as a memorial for a beloved parent(s) or grandparent(s). Or extend “best wishes” from your family with a photo and personalized message. Don’t be left out of this historic book! Forms available in the Narthex magazine rack and during coffee hour.

FESTIVAL PREP SCHEDULE If are available during the day, please plan on helping for at least one of the dishes.

Working people can also help make tiropites at a special “2nd shift” on Mon., May 11 from 4 –10 p.m. Please join us after work!


FOUNDERS DAY Sun., May 17 The Yassou Club will offer a Trisagion memorial to our church’s deceased founders followed by a celebratory coffee hour in the hall.



CEMETERY CLEAN UP Sat., May 16 GOYA will be at St. Theodosius Cemetery between 10 a.m.-Noon to help elderly parishioners or those who need physical assistance in cleaning up their family gravesites in time for Memorial Day. Please call Elena Steffas (440-899-7652), James Poulos (440-899-6317) or the office to schedule.

TEEN GAME NIGHT Sat., May 16 at St. Innocent Orthodox Church, 8526 Usher Rd., Olmsted Falls. Our sister church invites teens (grades 7-12) to an evening of fellowship. Dinner at 5 p.m., Vespers at 6 p.m. and games & activities from 7-10 p.m. Admission just $3. Call 440-235-4558 for more information.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY Mon., May 18 at 7 p.m.
Please come to the first assembly of the year to discuss approval of capital improvement projects and nominate a new Auditing Committee. A quorum of 50 members in Good Standing is needed for this meeting.

MAY FEASTDAYS Celebrate Sts. Constantine & Helen, at the cathedral, 3352 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland Hts., with 7 p.m. Vespers on Wed., May 20 and 9:30 a.m. Divine Liturgy on Thu., May 21, followed by luncheon. Thu., May 28 at 9:30 a.m. Divine Liturgy for the Ascension of Christ here at St. Demetrios Church.

PHILOPTOCHOS ELECTION Thu., May 21 at 7 p.m. to elect the 2009-2011 Philoptochos officers. MEMORIAL DAY VISITS Fr. Jim will be at the following cemeteries: Fri., May 22 2-4 p.m. at Lakewood Park; Mon., May 25 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Theodosius. Please be patient and respectful as he makes his way through one section at a time. If you have a loved one at another cemetery, please call the office to schedule a visit.

FESTIVAL ENTERTAINMENT Any parishioner who has a performing arts talent is invited to audition to perform out in the taverna during the festival. If you have at least 3 years experience with a musical instrument, or other skill (singing, etc.) call the office for more info.

SPOTLIGHT ON MUSIC Metropolis of Pittsburgh Philoptochos Societies are sponsoring a benefit for the Mt. Tabor Camp Project for September 2009 in Pittsburgh. If you sing or play a musical instrument, you are invited to audition, or those talented in art (painting, sculpture, etc.) who are willing to donate a piece of work for the Art Sale, can submit an application (available in the church office) by June 15, 2009.Email Mary Doreza (doreza@verizon.net) for more info.

GRADUATION SUNDAY On June 7 , Fr. Jim will bless our graduating high school seniors in church immediately following liturgy. If you are able to attend, please notify the office. Also, all graduates (high school, college and post-grad) are welcome to send in a photo and short bio for the special Graduation issue of the June Epistle. Deadline for submission is May 15.

HONOR THY FATHER Philoptochos Society will also honor our dads on Father's Day (June 21). Both living and deceased individuals remembered by their loved ones will be included in a printed program as well as in a special memorial (Trisagion) service honoring the beloved, deceased family members of our community.

NEW ORLEANS REBUILDING Join the St. Demetrios team in our 3rd year of building houses with IOCC and Habitat for Humanity for victims of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina. July 19-26, 2009 at St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana. Volunteers must be 18 or older, but 16 and 17-year-olds will be accepted, if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
