50TH ANNIVERSARY
~During the festival, we’ll commemorate our past & present Hellenic dancers and instructors.
~A 50th anniversary parish commemorative album is in the works and we hope you will consider sponsoring a full, half or third page as a memorial for a beloved parent(s) or grandparent(s) or extend “best wishes” from your family, business or Hellenic group with a photo and personalized message. Forms in the Narthex . Deadline to reserve your spot has been extended to July 31. All ad copy and money must be submitted by that date. Those who have already purchased their ad, will be receiving information about submitting photos, etc. after the festival.
And we are now pleased to offer our parishioners and friends a new level of sponsorship in the album: a Patron listing. For only $100 your name will be listed in alphabetical order on our Patron page(s). Your support will position us to grow and continue serving the Greek Orthodox Community even more effectively in the next 50 years. The commitment form for the Patron level of support is below. We ask for your commitment before July 1, 2009 in order to reserve your place in the Album. We sincerely hope that you will choose to show your support at some level as we honor 50 years of service to the families and friends of our vibrant parish.
~ The Archive Committee is still accepting group and event photos for the historical section of the album until July 15. Digital images can be emailed to sdrroffice@sbcglobal.net or bring in actual photos to be scanned during office hours. Or do you have a great story to share about a past festival, dance, tournament or other event? Please call the office to share.
PHILOPTOCHOS EVENTS
Where Does Our Money Go? Local Philanthropy
Philoptochos Chapters across the country provide support for local, metropolis, and national projects and commitments. However, the great majority of our St. Demetrios Philoptochos annual budget is dedicated to local causes and charities.
We provide:
· Monthly assistance to several families
· Emergency assistance for utility, rent and other bills
· Food coupons for the needy
· Visitations to nursing homes and shut-ins
· Donations to the Salvation Army, inner-city Cleveland elementary schools, The City Mission, Second Harvest, Zoe for Life, St. Hermans and others
· Support for the projects and organizations of our community, such as the Dome Project, Zapis Activity Center, renovation of the Board Room, annual Grecian Festival, parish library, Sunday school, Jr. GOYA, and senior citizens
· New brides receive a book on Greek traditions; babies receive an icon
· Community educational programs through the St. Andrews and Family & Society Committees
· Financial assistance through local fundraisers to local projects, such as the Steven Giallourakis Adolescent Young Adult Research Fund at University Hospitals, which received over $17,000 from the Joyful Light Benefit
In addition, we have obtained donations from the National Philoptochos for Cleveland hospitals: $30,000 to the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic in 2004; and $30,000 to the Steven Giallourakis AYA Research Fund in 2008.
HONOR THY FATHER Philoptochos Society will honor living and deceased dads on Father's Day (June 21) in a printed program & special memorial service. Complete the blue form that was mailed out earlier this month.
