ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Share the Light!
Today is designated Share the Light Sunday by our Orthodox Hierarchs to focus on our local, national and international Orthodox Radio Ministry. Donations from individuals helps broadcast “Come Receive the Light” in the Twin Cities; our parish supports the production of the radio programs in Florida and in turn we have our own customizable internet radio station called “The Ark” which you can connect to through the home page on our website. A Byzantine-style, 24 hour radio program called “The Rudder” is also available thru the internet. See the inserts today for more info and how you can participate in this ministry. Thank you for your support!

Interested in Serving the Altar?
The boys and young men who assist the priest and serve the altar are called “Acolytes”. We welcome all boys who are interested in serving God in this ministry. There will be a brief orientation meeting after Liturgy today, January 20, for all current acolytes, and interested boys with their parents.

Sanctity of Human Life
Today is designated by our Hierarch, Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago, as Sanctity of Life Sunday throughout the Metropolis. Orthodox Christians from throughout the country will travel to Washington DC for the January 22nd March for Life. There will be a similar event at the Minnesota State Capitol at 12PM the same day. Please see the inserts in today’s bulletin for more info. We need a volunteer to coordinate our parish’s Sanctity of Life Ministry working with Fr Nicholas Jonas, our Metropolis coordinator in Chicago. See Fr Rick for more info.

Loaves & Fishes Needs You! — Come and serve the hungry Monday, February 11. This community project is in need of volunteers. Please sign up in the Social Hall – 12-18 people are needed for 1-2 hours of serving. Pick up a brochure for more information.

Come Receive The Light National Orthodox Radio Program — 01/26/07 This week, we feature shows on Pastoral Counseling and Integrity. The Ark’s Featured Artist Block showcases The Makarios III Patriarchal Orthodox Seminary Choir. And premiering this week, our new show, “Orthodox Teen Talk Online” features a roundtable discussion with teens speaking their minds. The first program is on Drugs & Alcohol. Each day on The Ark and The Rudder you can hear a different show from “The Best of Come Receive the Light,” featuring favorite interviews from past episode of CRTL. During January 21-25, we will be playing "Learning to Trust the Church" (1/21), "An Effective Prayer Life" (1/22), "Orthodoxy`s Treasured Tradition" (1/23), "Orthodox Children`s Literature" (1/24), and "Church Capital Campaigns" (1/25). Listen Saturdays, KKMS 980AM, at 5PM, or anytime at www.receive.org

Philoptochos News — A big Thank You to the ladies who baked their beautiful and tasty Vasilopites, to those who served during Coffee Hour, and to our most generous parishioners. St Basil’s Academy will be receiving $1200. God bless you all.

From the Mouths of Babes: A Sunday School teacher asked her children, “Why is it necessary to be quiet in church?” One bright little girl said, “Because people are sleeping.”

Junior Choir Photo Opportunity — All Junior Choir members, please be here Sunday, January 27. We will be taking Junior Choir group photos for inclusion in the March Glad Tidings newsletter.

Church Fathers Speak: – When the soul becomes totally radiant and covered with the ineffable beauty of the glory of the light of Christ, it comes to share in the very life of the divine Spirit to such perfection that it is changed into the very chamber and throne of God. St Makarios the Great

ˇBasketball practices and scrimmages are held Sunday afternoons in January, 1-3pm at St. Paul Academy.

Time for House/Home Blessings
Theophany is the celebration of Christ’s baptism in the Jordan River where He blessed the waters and all of creation. At this Feast we prayerfully ask Him to bless the waters again, and then partake of them through drinking and sprinkling to receive His Divine Grace. It is customary during this season to bless our homes with this Holy Water. Please call or email Fr Rick for an appointment. Items needed: incense, icon, bowl, candle, and vasiliko.

Wisdom from the Fathers – Spiritual cultivation can take place only in the soil of the heart, for within it one can plant and sow seed. Then the rain of the energy of the Holy Spirit comes and brings forth fruit, which will be kept in two accounts: first in Heavenly one, and then in the earthly account for the poor and those who hunger spiritually. Elder Amphilochios of Patmos

Stewardship Update
As of January 10, 83 parishioners have submitted a pledge card and nearly 50% of our stewardship budget is pledged. If you have not already, please make your commitment of time, talents and treasures to God in our parish of St George. We are encouraging everyone to tithe (give 10% of gross income) by increasing their giving from the previous year. Reflection: There are two kinds of gratitude – the kind we feel for what we receive and the larger kind we feel for what we give.

Glad Tidings deadline: the 10th of each month. Example; Feb 10th for March 2008 Glad Tidings.
