Great and Holy Lent : Be purposeful about the following ascetical disciplines: 1) increased prayer and worship; make plans for intensified personal prayer and attending Lenten worship services; 2) fasting according to church guidelines; don’t make up your own fasting rules; seek advice from priest about how to grow in this discipline; 3) budget to give alms which means setting aside money for the poor; 4) confess your sins; daily in prayer, make amends with others and sacramental confession with the priest; 5) reduce distractions with less television and internet; avoid parties and social gatherings; 6) Learn and grow by participating in lectures, seminars and retreats. These are some of the main pillars of the Lenten experience. If any questions, please contact Fr. Rick. Kali Tessarakosti!
Wisdom from the Church Fathers: No one is free from the risk of persecution…But how serious it is for Christians who are unwilling to suffer for their own sins when He who had no sin suffered for us! The Son of God suffered in order to make us children of God. St. Cyprian of Carthage

The Church Fathers Speak: Let us not be pleased if we are successful in anything; let us not be proud of our activities; let not our material good and glory exalt us. If we swell up with pride about any good things that come our way we are displeasing to God. The psalmist says of the humble: ‘The Lord protects the little ones.’ If anyone wonders what else the Lord does with the ‘little ones’, the psalmist adds, ‘I was made humble and He set me free.’
