ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Historic Visit of Archbishop Demetrios: The Oratorical Festival weekend will be the first pastoral visit of Archbishop Demetrios to the Greek Orthodox community of the Twin Cities. It is the first visit of an Archbishop since Spyridon in 1997 for the YAL Conference. It is the first visit of an Archbishop to either parish since Archbishop Iakovos consecrated our church in 1975. Divine Liturgy on Sunday June 14th will be St. Mary Greek Orthodox Church and we are encouraging parishioners of St. George to attend liturgy there. In addition, a luncheon with Archbishop Demetrios will be served. Adults are $15 and kids under 12 are $7. Tickets are available after liturgy today and during the week in our church office. Please see Diane Anastos or Tom Lampros if you have questions. Please join us in welcoming Archbishop Demetrios that Sunday!

Oratorical Festival- We are still accepting donations to help host this event. Our costs have increased because of the unexpectedly positive response of out-of-town guests which now numbers 85 people. Thanks for your generosity!

Think on These Things: Do not demand love from your neighbor. Rather show love for your neighbor and comfort him, and thus bring you neighbor to love you. St. Dorotheos of Gaza

Next Door Property and House To Be Sold: The church was just notified that the property next-door to the west will come on the market soon. This is the house and property that our church subdivided and sold in 2002. The expected list price is $1,495,000. St. George church as first right of refusal.

Dearest Parish Family of George & Corie Kaniamos----It was my honor to welcome all who shared the weekend in their Celebration of Marriage. You are indeed the warmest and most loving group of people that I have had the pleasure to share an evening with. I would like to thank each and every person who was present with us and those who were only able to be there in spirit and with their prayers. The traditional beauty of the ceremony and the celebration of love & dance at the reception established endearing memories. Thank you once again for all your love & support especially Mr. & Mrs. Kaniamos & Family and Mr. & Mrs. Basil Loudas.
Kalo Riziko! Vaios & Amalia Vlachos are moving to Atlanta the week of June 15. We wish them well and thank them for their service to our parish for the last 11+ years. Their new address is: 633 Vickery Way NE, Marietta, GA 30066.

Come Receive The Light National Orthodox Radio Program: This week`s CRTL podcast on June 12th Dr. Steven Butler, award-winning composer and professor of music at Westmont College, joins Fr. Chris to talk about his life and his walk to Orthodoxy. Dr. Butler sailed the world and encountered the majesty of God on the seas. Find out how this led him back to Orthodoxy by listening. www.receive.org

Fr. Nicholas Kasemeotes -has been released from his pastoral duties at Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church in Rochester. Last week`s Graduation Program- inadvertently failed to recognize Billy Paraschou for his second year and John Simon for his third year of recognizable/good attendance. Wisdom from the Fathers: The more a man’s tongue flees talkativeness, the more his intellect is illumined so as to be able to discern deep thoughts; for the rational intellect is bemuddled by talkativeness. St. Isaac the Syrian

The Book Store- Stop by the bookstore to place orders for The Children`s Bible Reader in either English, Greek or Spanish. This Children`s Bible Reader is written in a way to introduce children to the Word of God; not just a collection of old and new testament biblical stories and includes original Byzantine style illustrations. Cost: $20.00. Hardcover. 320 pages. The bookstore is also taking orders for A Guide to Greek Traditions and Culture by Marilyn Rouvelas. This book describes ecclesiastical traditions, everyday customs, recipes and ways to celebrate feast days and holidays. Rouvelas’ writing style is straightforward, with clear explanations, making the book an invaluable reference and great gift-giving item. Cost: $30.00.

Church Fathers Speak: As long as man lives self-centeredly, he cannot forgive his fellowmen. His offended ego does not allow him to. However, when man repents and decides to place God in the center of his life, then he forgives those who distressed, harmed, and were unjust to him. We must put up a hard struggle in order to liberate our souls from resentment, because egoism tyrannizes our soul. For this reason the Lord taught us to seek forgiveness from God, on the condition that we forgive those who trespass against us. Archmandrite George Capsianis of Mt. Athos

Sunday School Volunteers: We are recruiting volunteers for the Sunday School 2009-2010 year. Please see or email Andrea Faches (afaches@msn.com) to offer your services. Activities we need assistance with include: general planning, teaching & classroom support, Fall Kick Off, Christmas Program, Oratorical Festival, Saturday of Lazarus Youth Retreat and Graduation Sunday. Thanks to all the volunteers who`ve made 2008-2009 such a productive and meaningful year for all.
