Archangel Gabriel Bookstore
Archangel Gabriel Bookstore - Building Your Prayer Life as we Prepare for Great Lent
As we enter this most blessed of liturgical seasons, prayer life becomes the center of our lives, once again and more so than any other time. For we are told in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." With this in mind the Bookstore offers these gifts:
The Lenten Spring - Forty meditation on Great Lent, revealing, in a simple, clear and beautiful manner, its true meaning. In his meditations, Fr Hopko draws on his long experience as a pastor and teacher, working with young and old throughout the country, to present to the modern reader the relevance of the Church`s two-thousand-year-old tradition of preparing to greet our Lord`s Resurrection.
· First Fruits of Prayer: A Forty Day Journey Through the Ancient Great Canon - A guided retreat—ideal for the Lenten Season—through the classic Great Canon of St. Andrew, still chanted by Eastern Christians every Lent. This insightful book offers readers a series of forty prayerful readings with accompanying commentary and questions for further reflection.
My Orthodox Prayer Book - the little blue book with a big collection of prayers for all occasions.
All-Night Vigil CD: Nuns of St Paisius Serbian Orthodox Monastery.
The Orthodox Prayer Book: All Saints of Alaska - a beautiful spiral bound prayer book for all occasions, includes full color icons.
Orthodox Study Bible - the fruit of over twenty years of labor by many of the best Orthodox Christian theologians of our time.
The Law of God - One of the most popular books ever published by Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, by Archpriest Seraphim Slobodskoy.
The Jesus Prayer: A Gift from the Fathers - “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me.” This prayer has been on the lips of Christians since the time of the Desert Fathers. What is its history? How do we make it our own?
Akathist Prayer Books - to Jesus "Conqueror of Death"; to Almighty God for Help; to Mother of God; to Guardian Angel.
The Bookstore offers many more books as well as lambadas, beeswax candles, incense and icons, so stop by the bookstore after liturgy for a little something to revitalize your prayer life.
Parish Food Festival Planning
Kick Off for the 2012 St. Anna Greek Food Festival
Yes, it is that time of year when it will take a Church to make a festival! Your new co-chairs this year are: Dennis Augostatos, Darla Mabery and Susan Skarakis. As always, we encourage everyone to participate since the Food Festival was such a great success last year. Anticipation runs high that the Food Festival will continue to grow in success as the surrounding communities discover what a great time is to be had as we share our culture, religion and talents with them.
The Kick Off Meeting will be held this Tuesday, January 31st. Enjoy pizza while we gear up for this year! We encourage last year`s Area Supervisors to continue to contribute their time and talents, so please email or call the Festival Co-Chairs (see following contact information) ASAP! We need to know who will be on board this year. If you are unable to sub-chair/manage the area you were responsible for last year, please consider offering some names of people who you think might be interested.
In the coming weeks we will be encouraging everyone`s participation to sign-up and get involved! Without your help there is no Food Festival.
Thank you, from this year`s Co-Chairs:
