Metropolitan’s Visit and schedule of events celebrating the Annunciation and Greek Independence Day
Today, his Eminence, Metropolitan Methodios, is visiting our community to celebrate with us the feast of our parish. At the end of the service, the Sunday School and Greek school children will sing the apolytikion of the church and the Greek national anthem. The services will be followed by a fellowship hour that will give everyone an opportunity to greet the Metropolitan.
The celebration of the Feast of the Annunciation will continue on Wednesday, March 24 at 6:30pm with Great Vespers in Newburyport (at our sister church of the Annunciation located at the intersection of Harris and Park Sts.) Members of our choir will sing, and we encourage all of you to take part in the celebration. For carpooling, please call the church office (742-7667).
On Thursday, March 25, the schedule of events will be (as previously listed in the “Rejoice”):
8:00 am Flag raising ceremony at City Hall.
8:30 am Orthros at our church
9:30 am Divine Liturgy
10:45 am Fellowship in the hall
On Sunday, April 11 at 4pm we will conclude the celebrations with a Benefit Concert offered by the Rachmaninoff Choir. They will perform Sergei Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil for unaccompanied chorus, under the direction of Dr. Antoni F. Antolini.
The Rachmaninoff Choir combines members of the Bowdoin College Chorus in Brunswick, Maine, community people in coastal Maine who are part of Down East Singers in Rockport, and other singers from the Boston area. The Choir was formed in 1992 by Dr. Anthony Antolini, who teaches music at Bowdoin. The ensemble’s specialty is Russian Orthodox choral music and the choral music of the USA. Depending on the Concert, the group numbers between 60 and 80 singers. The Choir has performed all over Maine, as well as in Boston, New Haven, St. Partrick’s Cathedral in New York City, Montreal (Canada), The National Cathedral in D.C., and Middlebury, VT. It has also performed at many Greek Orthodox Churches in New England, including Churches in Peabody and Haverhill, Saco, and the Serbian Orthodox Church in Cambridge (MA).
Tickets are $15 and include the reception after the concert. Proceeds will benefit My Friend’s Place and our music ministries. Please reserve your tickets early, by contacting the church office (742-7667 annunciationdover.org) or Siroun Braun (332-3914 singsingsing@netzero.com). Also, please help us to spread the word around and invite your friends to the concert. It will be a truly memorable experience!
